What Makes PHCA Different?

Every subject in our Kindergarten classroom is taught through the lens of Scripture — not as an add-on, but as the foundation underneath it.

Using Abeka’s Purposeful Design Bible curriculum, kindergartners move through the Old and New Testaments learning that God’s Word is one true story of His care, His works, and His plan of redemption. Rather than isolated Bible stories, children are taught to see the larger truth: that God desires a relationship with every person, that all people need Him, and that Jesus is the way to a saving faith.

That same Biblical lens carries into reading, math, science, and social studies. When a kindergartner learns to count, sort, or observe the change of seasons, they’re also learning that the world was made with order and purpose by a God who cares about the details of their life. It’s woven into circle time, calendar time, and the quiet moments in between — not confined to a single class period.

What Kindergartners Learn

Our Kindergarten curriculum, built on Bob Jones University Press resources alongside supplemental, standards-aligned materials, covers:

  • Bible — Old and New Testament truths, memory verses, and a growing personal faith
  • Reading & Language Arts — phonemic and phonetic awareness, decodable readers, journal writing, and a literature-rich classroom
  • Math — number sense, sorting and classifying, addition and subtraction, geometry, measurement, and money
  • Science — hands-on, discovery-based units on plants, animals, the solar system, weather, matter, energy, and more (including the Mystery Science program)
  • Social Studies — citizenship, community, historical figures, and an early understanding of how our lives connect to the world around us

Kindergartners also begin using I-Ready in the fall, which helps our teachers tailor small-group, station-based, and individualized instruction to each child’s needs.

Getting Started: The Enrollment Process & Financial Aid

We believe a Christ-centered education should be within reach for your family. PHCA is one of the most affordable private Christian school options in the Blue Springs and Kansas City area, and we offer financial aid and scholarship opportunities to help make that possible.

Enrolling your kindergartner at PHCA is a simple, guided process:

Schedule a Visit

Tour our campus, meet our Kindergarten teacher and see a classroom in action, meet with our Head of School, and our Financial Coordinator. Once this is complete, you will be able to submit an application.

Complete the online application in our family portal and upload the required records (birth certificate, immunization records, and any prior school records, if applicable).

Once accepted, finalize your enrollment paperwork and reserve your child’s spot for the school year.

Setting Your Child Up for Success on Day One

We know the summer before Kindergarten can feel like a big question mark for parents. Here are a few simple, non-mandatory ways to help your child feel confident on the first day:

  • Count everything. Point out and count real objects all summer long — snacks, steps, toys. The more hands-on counting, the stronger your child’s number sense becomes.
  • Strengthen those little hands. Coloring, play dough, and small-toy play all build the fine motor control needed for writing.
  • Practice letter formation the PHCA way. Kindergarten teaches pre-cursive handwriting, and it’s much easier for a child to learn one letter-formation method from the start rather than switch later. Our Letter Formation Guide shows exactly how each letter is taught in class.
  • Talk letters and sounds. Naming letters and their sounds gives kindergartners an early confidence boost.
  • Play with sounds and rhymes. Phonemic awareness — hearing and playing with the sounds in words — is one of the strongest predictors of reading success. Our Phonological & Phonemic Awareness Skills guide  offers simple at-home activities, from rhyming games to clapping out syllables.

Students must be 5 years old by August 1. If your child misses the cutoff, please ask us about our Kindergarten Bridge program!

PHCA conducts a readiness assessment before the start of Kindergarten. Led by our Kindergarten teachers, the assessment helps us understand each child’s current skills and overall readiness for the Kindergarten classroom.

Children participate in a variety of activities throughout the day, including morning lessons in reading, writing, and math, as well as specials such as music, art, and P.E. Our Kindergarten classroom is a hands-on environment where children are encouraged to explore their world and develop the social and academic skills they need for success.

At PHCA, God’s Word and a Christian worldview are woven throughout every subject. Bible is also taught as a stand-alone subject, focusing on specific aspects of God and His redemptive work through Jesus. Chapel is held weekly.

PHCA follows the Bob Jones curriculum for math, reading, language arts, science, and social studies. We use the Abeka curriculum for Bible.

Our Kindergarten classes have a maximum of 15 students. This helps ensure that students receive the individualized instruction they need as they develop early math and literacy skills.

Our Kindergarten program is full-day, with both before- and after-care options available. Care is offered on a first-come, first-served basis and must be reserved through the Business Office; drop-ins are not permitted. Pricing for before- and after-care can be found on the PHCA tuition page.

The first step in the enrollment process is a tour and consultation. This includes a campus visit, a meeting with our Head of School, and a financial consultation covering scholarship and financial aid opportunities. You will then submit a birth certificate and immunization records for each student and complete the application. Once we have received this information, we will send you a notice of acceptance, and you can sign your contract of intent to attend.

We see each child as an individual who brings a unique set of experiences and knowledge to the classroom. Our teachers bring those individual children together as a class while preparing each one for future learning.

Kindergarten tuition includes activities, field trips, curriculum, and the costs associated with educating your child. There is a one-time application fee of $150 per family and a $275 enrollment fee to secure your child’s place in the classroom. Each student is responsible for providing their own classroom materials, such as pencils and markers.
